SPring-8 (Harima Science Garden City)
HYOGO Prefecture
Large-scale radiation facility, a technopolis center
This facility in Harima Science Garden City is the world's largest synchrotron radiation facility that produces highly brilliant photons with in on X-ray region. It is composed of an accelerator complex and research facilities to use radiation. The facilitiy is open to Japan and the world for the study of various field such as materials, life science, medical science and earth science.

SPring-8 storage ring in which circulating electron beams are stored and emitts synchrotron radiation. The circumference is 1,436 m.

Facilities in which experiments are conducted using photon radiation generated in the storage ring. Research on the Earth's internal structure, X-ray Imaging, crystallography of proteins, etc. has provided new scientific knowledge.
